Proclamation of the Birth of Christ

Notes

The Christmas Proclamation comes originally from the Roman Martyrology, where it was intended to be read during the hour of Prime on Christmas Day, setting the Nativity of our Lord in the context of human history. After the reforms of the mid-20th century, Pope John Paul II utilized the Proclamation during Midnight Mass at the Vatican, doing it for the first time in 1980, which led to the readoption of it in parochial settings. At the Vatican, it is traditionally sung before the Introit.
