The Epiphany Proclamation comes from a more practical, rather than spiritual need – namely, the need to announce the dates of the moveable feasts during the coming church year, those feasts whose dates are determined by the date of Easter, as well as the start of Advent. As a prefigurement of Easter, that great feast which is marked every time we celebrate the Holy Eucharist, this is traditionally sung to the same tune as that of the Exsultet.
